BBMP demands GST share

In a resolution that could have a far reaching impact on the BBMP revenue, the Palike has sought the Goods and Service Tax (GST) council to share 25 per cent of the revenue earned from the city with the civic body.
The chairman of the BBMP standing committee on Taxation and Finance M.K. Gunashekar urged the GST council to share 25 per cent of its revenue earned from the city to help BBMP  boost the city infrastructure.
Even the 14th finance committee felt that local bodies must get the funds from GST revenue. The resolution will be sent to the GST council through the finance department of the state government.
The Urban Development Minister during the GST council meet in 2015 had said that 25 per cent should be given to the local self governments. Since a major chunk is going to the state and central government in the form of GST, the local bodies must be paid to tide over the financial crisis.
This will also reduce the dependency of BBMP on the state government for finances.
